I just wanted to follow up on the thread237-151895

that was started last May by yours truly. The issue was FINALLY resolved in December of 06, thanks to the help of a great elevator consulting company who forced our vendor to try something that was suggested for months.

The noise is now gone.. the solution, slow the car down by 10 feet per minute. Apparently, the car was going a bit faster than the fpm it was rated for (by about 3-5 fpm).

Slowing it down by around 10 feet per minute, the noise is 98% gone.

Too bad it took us 6 months of vendor nagging to get them to try this.

Thanks to all who helped.

Looks like Mark Empson was right in his first assumption:

Hello scmguru

Is it possible to alter the speed that the hoist operates at by a small percentage, i.e. slow it down by say 10% and see if there is any change. It is possible that there is some form of resonance going on here. "

If only the vendor would have worked with us when we brought them the printouts from this forum.. it wouldn't have taken 8 months!!

Thanks again..

Hey thanks for telling us. Evey now an then I would come across the sound recordings and start wondering.

BTW Was the speed change a "turn-the-knob" affair or a change a gear affair?

Keith,

It was a turn the knob affair..

Best Regards.

scmguru, don't feel too bad. I deal with that sort of problem more often than anyone ever should. Somebody at the vendor possibly learned something technical, and somebody else hopefully learned a bit about how to deal with vendors.

Ignorance is innocent, it's the stupidity that irritates me so much.
