AC paving on a steep driveway

I am working on a small residential project that will require re-working a bit of the driveway. Existing driveway is ac paved with a slope of about 19% and I'm concerned about vehicle grip. What is the best way to ensure good roughness on new AC? Is there any data supporting roughness anything close to brushed concrete?

Follow the paving immeiately with a microsurfacing of coarse sand. Keep the base pavement surfacing as is..you need that for structure and durability This will provide appropriate friction. Provide a warranty/maintenance document that will require resurfacing using the same microsurfacing every 5 years or so...this will provide good performance and will cover your liability in case they don't do it.
 
I have a couple of slopes like that at my place. 4 wheel drive is needed for my tractor and utility vehicle even in light snow cover. Pavement thickness is 3.5 inches in two lifts.

One factor is moving that paver up the slope. They may have to use supplemental towing of the paver. Compaction is likely to be light, but that may not be too bad, since fines will erode in time and leave a coarser surface. Here these slopes are working better than tight surface areas for traction, yet are not deteriorating.

If you can get what we call a binder mix, that is coarser, in time it will be better for icy conditions, etc., since coarse particles will dominate the surface.

Don't make the mistake of using a paint-type sealer,making it more slick.
 
oldestguy...I agree...a coal tar emulsion "sealer" would be a nightmare on that slope!!
 
binder mix aka open graded mix has a high proportion of larger aggregate with less small aggregate to fill the gaps. Is course, porous and rougher than typical surface mix. Old fashioned macadam might be better.
