ACAD 2005 - Change XREF paths

I have many drawings in a project which themselves have many (around 20) other drawing xrefed into them. Our IT department changed the document manager to Conisio. The drive letter and path have changed (only slightly but enough).

Is there a way to change the paths of the xrefs globaly (i.e. change K:\PDOC to C:\DAK1). My Xrefs are all in different folders and other projects making it more complicated.

I've tried xREpath and cannot quite get to grips with it.

Leave it to IT to screw things up!!! They think so highly of themselves! Make them fix it, the arrogant wretches!! Maybe when they see how much they really cost the company, they will work WITH you instead of DICTATING. Also, I'd go straight to the top level managemnt and demonstrate how much IT has cost your comapny in time and lost opportunity.

There should be a program called "Reference Manager" you can use. I don't remember if it was an extra installation or not, but it can be found on the start menu in the location of the rest of the Autocad installation.
It is fairly easy to use and works great.

CDH is right - and it is part of the standard installation of R2004 and R2005 (I'm not sure about earlier editions).

Thanks for your reply CDH and IFR - but looks like you need to do the repathing before the move otherwise the manager gives a failure warning (presumeble because it is looking for xref paths to a drive and location that no longer exists). Pitty because it could have been easy.

Borgunit - you are right - seem the only option but like I said I strugled with it - So to please IFRs I am sending it on to IT (days to wait no doubt).

It is possible that all you have to do is create a phantom drive / path on the new system, then use the AutoCAD reference manager. Right click MyComputer and map K drive to C:\DAK1. Create a folder C:\DAK1\PDOC. AutoCAD should then find K:\PDOC and you can change the references to C:\DAK1 using the reference manager.

Hmm, whenever I use it for old projects that have xrefs on a drive that no longer exists, it just simply cant find them. It will say "Not found" in the status column. Then it lists the "saved path", and is blank in the "found path".
It really shouldn't be any different than when you open the drawing. You can open it, and it is just missing the xref because it is in a different path.

What we used to do (I do not know if this is practical for you) is to keep the XREF always in the folder with the file that was XREFing it. You make sure No Path is selected for XREF path. We did XREFs for multiple sheets in the past and as long as the files were together, it did not matter where the files resided.

If the reference manager program list the xref, you can change all blanks to C:\DAK1 and then apply the changes and AutoCAD should find the xrefs in the new location.
