ACAD 2006... Significantly slower?

Is it? It seems a thousand times slower than 2004. I'm in need of speed, not gee-gaws or eye candy. The company just switched to 2006 and all the eye candy seems to slow things down significantly.

Is there a way to shut off the gee-gaws to get things cranking again?

Maybe that's why. I've been using the same LAPTOP for the past 2.5 years... Compaq Evo N610c with 512MB RAM.
