I have created my own tool paletts which are saved into a location set by the IT bloke somewhere down the line of docs and settings acad etc and support.

This is fine but I'd like to set up shared tool paletts which we used in my old company. I have created a path to the shared folder and this lies above the local docs settings path (in options and folders) but when I create a new palette it is save local to my machine.

Can you help.

Here is a little blip from Autodesk...

Tool palettes (tabs on the Tool Palettes window) are .atc files (although they become .xtp files when you export them). On my Windows® XP system, their default location is c:\ Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2004\R16.0\enu\Support\ToolPalette\Palettes. Whew! Because your system may be different, from the Tools menu choose Options, and click the Files tab. Double-click Tool Palettes File Locations to see the location on your system. (However, on my system, this displays only to the level of the ToolPalette folder.) There you see the .atc files for the three default tool palettes. You also have an Images folder that contains the images for the icons.

All very true and this is the location I have too. I have also made another folder for shared tool paletts and that path is displayed in the under 'tool paletts locations' above the defaul location - but I have no idea how to engage that new location as default for future paletts - we had this working at my old company but it was coincidence because the IT bloke looked lost when I asked how it was done.

So I am back to the same problem - getting another location to be default.

I am away for a few days now - baby on the way - but would welcome some ideas. Thanks.

I have not used these yet but it doe not seem to hard. In your OPTIONS >> FILES >> TOOL PALLETTES FILE LOCATIONS, just add the location of your choice.

This is correct but its changing the default palette - I presumed it would be the first in the list but this doesnt seem to have worked. If I use the existing default then this is not shared and sharing the folder doesnt work either because I would have to have my machine on all the time.
