Anyone happy to comment on use of ACCC (Aluminum Conductor Composite Core) conductor in overhead 66kV sub transmission line as compared to AAAC.

a. Advantage and Disadvantage (Electrical and Mechanical)
b. Method and Cost of construction and installation
c. Maintenance and ease of detecting defects and degradation
d. Line hardware availability and security in Australia
e. Any special training required for designers and powerline skills

We are looking at it for 115kV, but may not use it, depending on the number of towers that need to be rebuilt. We were looking at it because it has the same weight as the existing conductor, but has more capacity.
But we are seeing that a number of towers may need to be replaced anyway. That said, the line, an H-frame, may be converted to a mono pole double circuit (230 and 115) line.
It's still up in the air, as new right of way is hard to come by.
The new hardware needed is a concern also, and something new for the crews.

I've heard of ACSR, but what is AAAC?

Thanks @cranky108,

How about maintenance, do you know or have any experience in performing repairs on the ACCC? Will it be similar as installing a splice in between or will it require a restring of a span or two? Also, when or which situation will it be more beneficial to use the ACCC?

ACCC option may become economical when an existing transmission line is planned to be uprated wihout constructing new structures or facing RoW issues associated with new line.
I know some of the utilities in Gulf region used ACCC.
