As per TEMA ninth edition, RCB-8 Flexible shell elements, for design of thick expansion joint Finite Element Method is applied.

Does it mean if we are using TEMA and ASME as design standard and code respectively, we can not apply Kopp & Sayer method for design of thick expansion joint?

What should be method for thin expansion joint with same codes and standards?

mandarkardekar, thin (bellows) joints are designed to Apx 26.

As far as I know, Kopp & Sayre is may still be used for F & F joints. Apx 5 does not provide rules for calculations and TEMA does not appear to mandate FEA.

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand
