I'm currently accessing AS/NZ standards through Concrete Institute of Australia, subscription price is reasonable, however, the new platform i2i is not that great. You cannot open a downloaded standard without internet connection and you can only open the pdf using adobe (this is a recent development) due to a plugin called fileopen. My current system for using standards (bookmarks, notes, etc.) are built around bluebeam, so having the standards openable only via adobe is a real pain.

Anyone using an alternative way to access standards (preferably on the same price point or lower)?

Haven't had to use the new version you speak of. I tried just now and failed to download anything despite having a supscription through masterspec here in NZ, it kept sending me to a page to pay for it. Seems a bit broken since they updated their website recently perhaps... .

But you do know a lot of construction related standards are sponsored and made available for free. That might be enough to get by on for most design stuff (given a lot of the standards are common anyway if you already have access to Australian standards).

The NZ only ones might be.

I'm pretty sure that AS and AS/NZ standards are all for purchase only.

Enhineyero - It might be worth e-mailing SA to tell them of the loss of functionality, with a copy to the Concrete Institute.

I will copy this thread to the CIA as well.

Checking the SAI/CIA download through the new interface (which apparently I hadn't used before), I had to download and install some new registration program. After that, I was able to download a standard and then open that from my local drive without an Internet connection.

I don't have Bluebeam, but I'm surprised you were able to open downloaded files with that before. It looks like they have tightened up their security software.

Standards NZ have just updated the site. Subscriptions are still there, but user not friendly, you need to click the right button or you go the purchase page. The downloads are PDF and you can not save as. But you copy from your download folder.

Some of the NZ standards come free?!? Good on Kiwis.

Yes I can download and open it bluebeam, but not edit or remove the security. For me this is mainly for ease of making notes/bookmarks and I'm so used to the bluebeam interface. SAIglobal (provides access to standards for CIA members) is trying to push their own online system or use adobe, which is not as fast or as good as bluebeam.

Enhineyero - I am using the SAI Global/CIA download.

It has always been part of the system that the download files were intended for personal use, and were locked to prevent printing or editing.

The new files are slower opening, but that's presumably because of the new licence checking system, and nothing to do with Adobe.
