Section 1.10.1 states "Deflection of beams and lintels due to DL plus LL shall not exceed l/600 nor .3 in when providing vertical support to masonry designed in accordance with Section 2.2 or Chapter 5."
So in a nut shell.. If masonry has been unreinforced or empirically designed then I don't have to follow the deflection criteria specified above?
I've always gone around and around with the strict deflection criteria for masonry.
I have a steel beam spanning approx. 32 feet supporting vertically rein. masonry. Also providing duro-wal every other course.
Thanks
