I've been trying to explain to a colleague (via email) what is meant by fractional octave analysis and what a centre frequency is. My first thought was to simply point him at a web link (with pictures and things) but couldn't find one.

Anyone got any good links? I don't fancy drawing my own pictures if I can avoid it.

Wow! I have a paper copy of that booklet (also measuring vibration). I was thinking of scanning bits of it but thought it might not be legal. Thanks.

B&K was always a good source for acoustic and vibration information and equipment, even when I was using General Radio equipment in years past.

B&K also have a continuing series of web seminars that are very well-done and easily understandable covering everything from how a microphone works to the basics of FFT analysis.
I find there's always something to be learned in them, and I recommend them highly.
