I AM TRYING TO MAKE MY OWN LINE TYPE WHICH SHOWS NO LINE BUT CROSSES AT A GIVEN INTERVAL. I'VE READ A BIT ABOUT HOW TO CREATE LINE TYPES BUT I CANNOT GET RID OF THE DASH OR DOT.

IS IT POSSIBLE?

Not entirely. When you specify pen down, even if it is for zero length, there will be a dot.

CAN I SPECIFY THAT DOT AS BEING IN THE SAME PLACE AS THE CROSS - OR WITHIN A VERY SMALL DISTANCE FROM IT THAT IT IS ALMOST UNSEEN?

You should be able to eliminate any dashes or dots if you use just a negative number for the "pen up" distance between the crosses. But you cannot eliminate dashes at the beginning and end of a line.
