Hello

I want to model the impact of a silicone ball (with a 200m/s speed) on a cylinder using Abaqus/Explicit; however, i'm experiencing some troubles, because that involves severe finite deformations (the ball is supposed to flatten itself completely). First, the analysis stopped at some point, because "the rate of deformation" was too high; i think i fixed that using an adaptive mesh. Now, the analysis stops because some elements have zero or negative mass?! I'm not sure at all, but this might be due to the fact that "some elements are made nonadaptive" during the preprocessing, because "every surface node that is connected to more than 15 elements is made nonadaptive". Still, i don't know at all how to make those nodes "less" connected.

Do you any clue why there is such an error and how i can fix it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cédric
