Yes, go into Customize and place your cursor over the text object in the toolbar and press MB3 (Right Mouse Button) and then from the pop-up menu select 'Change Button Image' and you can either select one of the ones offered by Microsoft or you could go to some folder where you've copied or created bitmaps of your own.

John,

What happens when a new version of NX is installed? If the user saves their Role after performing the steps you outlined above, and then uses that saved role in the newer version of NX will the same customized toolbar appear or will they have to repeat those same steps?

Cool. I think now I can finally get rid of all of my .tbr files. And just customize from the interface rather than doing it outside of NX (UGII_BITMAP_PATH, home made .tbr files, etc.).

I'll try it out when NX6 Beta starts up later this year, if typical Beta scheduling hasn't changed from what it was in the past.

UGS NX 6 'beta' will probably not start officially until after the first of the year. Note that the anticipated release date of NX 6 will NOT be 12 months after NX 5, but something closer to 15 months, maybe even a bit longer.

Not sure what I was thinking when I said that....I knew NX5 was released in March, so regardless of actual schedule (12 or 15 months or longer) the expected NX6 Beta timeframe would still be next year, not this year.

I am having an issue stacking my toolbars on the left side. I had customized them (since the NX5 update) in modeling without issue. However, just today when trying to customize the toolbars in drafting I can only have ONE Toolbar per column?!?! Does anyone know why NX5 is currently only allowing me to put one toolbar per column of toolbars? (When trying to place them in a stacked fashion they just snap all the way to the left, and create a new column.)

I hope this is just some settings error,

Thanks for you help,
KLINE

I'm running UGX NX 5.0.1.4 and I have no problem stacking multiple toolbars in a single column on the leftside of the screen in either Modeling or Drafting.

Note that I'm not aware of any option/setting that would have an impact on this behavior.

We are running 5.0.0.25 here. I still suspect some sort of setting (although, I don't remember changing one) being that I did have multiple toolbars stacked in single columns. Now it just will not work....I may have to reload NX5.

Thanks,

KLINE

We've tried everything and was unable to duplicate your problem. I even talked to the developer responsible for toolbars and how they are are placed and managed, and she was not aware of any setting/option that would limit this nor any reason why it shouldn't work in UGS NX 5 as it did in NX 4.

Thanks for looking into this John. I ended up reinstalling NX 5 and the toolbar situation is corrected. I am still not sure what the problem was... perhaps something was overwritten on accident or issues were an effect of running NX2 and NX5 concurrently.

KLINE

I don't think running multiple vesions of UG/NX would have any effect. On my demo laptop I've got Unigraphics V16.0, 17.0, 18.0, NX 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0, and in a couple of weeks I'll be installing NX 6 and I expect that they all continue to work 'as advertised' ;-)

I suspect that it might have been your registry, which could ahve been reset without having to deinstall and reinstall NX 5, but since it worked...

so do you have C/UGS_1,2,3 etc and flexlm_1,2,3 etc in order to run multiple versions? or do you still let them install where they want to, all together ???

They'll all installed in their own folders, but I only have 2 license servers running, one for UG V16 thru NX 4.0 and the latest, which supports NX 5.0. And I can run as many different sessions simultaneously as I wish (or have memory enough for) without any conflicts whatsoever. I have separate working folders designated for each version to keep files separated.

I use .bat files to launch each version so as to set specific environment varibles and such. Note that I've been doing this for years with no problems.

How do I reset this registry? I just launched NX2 again, while having NX5 up, and my Toolbars are now back to their one-per-column ways...

Regards,

KLINE

If your NX 2 registry is overwirting your NX 5 registry, you've got bigger problems than just resetting them. It appears that someone may have already messed with them. It would be best to just logoff of all your NX sessions, DELETE all the NX specific registries and start over.

John,

Would launching both versions from separate .bat files maybe fix this without having to reinstall BOTH versions to fix the registry? It sounds like at a minimum he'll have to reinstall NX5 since it worked fine until he launched NX2 THEN launched NX5 afterwards.

Maybe making them specifically call out some of the major environment variables would fix the problem??

If he had properly installed NX 2 and then did the same with NX 5, there should have been 2 separate entries on the Windows Start 'menu'. Granted, he would have ended up sharing some settings, but if nothing was edited manually, those settings would have been valid for both versions. Besides, which registry to use is not under the control of an environment variable but is rather controlled by the software and its interaction with Windows. That's why I suggested deleting the registries since the next time you started either version of NX, new, albeit empty, registry files would be automatically created by the OS for that particular version of NX.
