hi,

im dealing with an apartment, reinforced concrete, that a concrete slab was added in after the original construction,

using rebar inserted into perimeter slabs (with epoxy) , see the plans below:

now, after 2 years, theres a large crack in the slab, roughly near the joint line of new slab to old:

to me this seems worrying, but a few people have told me this is normal...does anyone have experience with these kinds of building additions?

is the slab simply behaving as pinned connection at edges, and the rotation is causing the crack , or should it be designed and built as inherently fixed, and no rotation is expected?

thanks

Naftali

Where is the crack located on the floor plan?

Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Do you feel any better? Do the dowels go through the wall? into what? or is this just illustrative?
