Hi

I'm having trouble getting a 2D exploded view to show in drafting.

I set up the 3D assembly with the work view explosion and put the parts where I need them.

I then use the TFR-TRI option within base view in 2D but I always get the assembly in the non-exploded state. I've tried making the view with the part in exploded & non exploded mode but makes no difference. Any ideas?

What view is the explosion in?

If it is not createed in the TFR-TRI view then it will not display.

I usually create a view and then create the explosion in my named view rather than any of the canned views.

Are you working in Master Model?

Make sure you create the explosion at drawing level...

Or create an arrangment and display the arrangement explosion in the drawing using (set this when you add the view)

Cut myself off short there..

I meant to say: ...using the Choose Arrangement, button on the add view dialogue (next to scale)

Hi

The view reads: TFR-TRI WORK Camera TFR-TRI[EXPLODED] (in 3D assembly file)

Whats the difference between views and arrangements in NX?

thanks NXconsultants I always used to create the exploded view in a specific configuration (arrangement) but reading the training guide from Siemens for NX5 it should be possible to lay down the exploded view just by choosing the TFR-TRI from the base options. However, NX doesn't seem to register the exploded view in 2D using this method So much for following the tutorials hehe...

I've just tested this - Set work view to TFR-TRI (for example) View > layout > Replace View

Create the explosion

In to draughting

Add view - TFR-TRI - Exploded view added

Back in to modelling, Work view Top, switch off explosion

Subsequent views in draftin appear in unexploded state...

I'm an arrangments user as a rule, but this seems to work.
I have always felt that explosions were a little hit and miss, but then I'm not a drafter, so I wouldn't take my word for it!

Thanks NX consultants, but that method didn't work for me. I continued to mess around with it and finally got it to work by doing this:

1. creating assembly
2. creating drawing of assembly
3. creating exploded view in the assembly directly from the drawing (selecting start > modeling)
4. then start > drafting
5. then use the view create TFR-TRI.

Seems that you can't create the explosion first and then do a 2D view of it. (unless I have something set incorrectly deep in my preferences somewhere)

What a nightmare, does anyone else find this confusing?

In modeling, create exploded view, then do View -> Save As. You can make all of the modifications you want, go into drafting, and add your saved view. It will come in as you left it in modeling.

Thanks Ewh, that last post was really helpful. Now its much easier to import the view I need.
