Adding draft to planar surface - ribbon error - V5

Hello.

I am V5R10.

I am trying to add draft to a "U" shaped planar face with a surface for the neutral element. I keep getting an error that says, "A single operation cannot process more than one ribbon." Does anyone know what this means and how I can get the face to draft?

Thanks,

Sheryl Fredricks

My guess is your U shape contains some small radii that are tapering to a point when you add the draft.

Try removing the radii from the U shape, add the draft, and then add the radius back to the drafted edges.

Thanks, jackk.

My U shaped surface is actually square. I guess I should have said "a square U shaped surface." There are no rounded features involved. Any other ideas?

Thanks again.

Sheryl

How wavy is the neutral surface? A surface with tight curvature could cause the problem.

Also, the deeper (longer) the draft is, the more likely you are to have the problem.

Sheryl...

I just tried it myself, but I couldn't recreate it to get the same error message as you.

What release are you using? (I'm on V5R11 SP3)

Are you using the default draft options, or have you chosen other options in the More panel?

This is also a part that I am rebuilding from V4. The neutral surface is from V4. It is curved on one end but the area the intersects the U shaped surface is flat. Maybe I should try to create a new neutral surface for this draft feature that is totally flat.

More info about what I am trying to do: The neutral surface is in the middle of the surface that I would like to draft. It doesn't come close to the bottom of the U.

The face that I am trying to draft is quite short (<10mm).

If you can send a picture (screen image?) of your part, or the part itself, I'll try to look at it before I takeoff for my holiday vacation

I am new to this forum. I don't see any place to attach an image or to find your e-mail address so that I can send a screen image to you. Please advise.

Thanks,

Without seeing the math data it is difficult to trouble shoot. Try creating the draft with the Square form. to do this select the more button in the draft definition window. Change the Draft form from Cone to Square. Let me know if that works.
