I think I may have lost my mind... how do I add text notes to sketches? I'm using sketching to capture some physical info and drive a sheet metal component... but I can't figure out how to add notes to the model space in a sketch. Thanks,

Hi,

do a RMB in the upper part of the window (in free space)
and activate 3D-Annotation, then in should pop-up (V18)
And there you have the Callout which you can attach
to a line etc.

Thanks, donyoung, that was what I was looking for. Now, along the same lines, is there a way that those annotations will follow the model into the draft? Also, I know PMI will be out in V19, but can I display those annotations in a "viewer" enviroment - like SE Viewer or eDrawings?

Thanks.

Hi,

no it will not show up neither in draft nor in SE viewer.
It's sole purpose seems to be to leave a not in that
sketch it's placed.

Hi,

just by accident I found out that a note placed in 3D-Sketch
*will* show up in a draft when

- the note is placed normal to the view. Example:
The note is placed on an edge or similar of a face that
is parallel to the x/y plane which will then be shown
in draft by selecting 'Top'

- 'Retrieve Dimension' function is used for that view

Thanks. Ironically, I was just trying to do that very same thing when I received the email notification. You've shortened the learning curve for me, donyoung. Thanks.

@Zissou,

one word of warning here: placing other things like tolerance
frames, hole callout etc. into the 3D sketch can make SE fragile
in that it may crash during open of the associated draft or at
worst make your draft unusable (V18/SP5)!
All data that can be considered 'cosmetic' will not update
automatically when the 3D-data is changed, you have to update
it manually by using 'retrieve dimensions'.
IMHO it has been implemented this way because you may change any
of those items that are not directly controlled by the part's
geometry, and it would be very annoying when an update will
wipe out all those changes.
