Hi all,

I have a job interview this afternoon, and was wanting to know if there is a way i can take a directory of SW files, and set them to a read only state? I know this can be done somewhat, but i want the people i give the cd to, to not be able to copy the files to their HD, and turn this off, so that my models cannot be modified. Is this possible?

I know that i could save as an IGS file, but i want to preserve the integrity of the creation, so that they know its my work!

There's no way in Solidworks to prevent someone from opening the files and changing them if you give them the native files.

You could send eDrawing files instead though. The Task scheduler (SW Office) could be set to batch covert all your files to eDrawing format.

It is a Windows function, not a SolidWorks one, so you could not prevent access.

However, the bigger question is a legal and ethical one. I trust that these files are definitely your own proprietary interlectual property? Otherwise our current (or previous) employer owns that information as proprietary data. You should not be allowing ANYONE to even see it without permission ESPECIALLY a prospective new employer!!! Dangerous ground you are treading on...... Even if you are no longer employed by the company, it is still a no-no. BE CAREFUL. I might add that an intereviewer might think, hmmmm..... he is showing me his other employer's stuff, so what might he do with ours some time in the future? (I would - and have considered this when shown stuff that I had no right see.)

JNR is right, if the work was created while on the clock the designs(intellectual property ) belong to the employer.

Short of creating your own software copy protection for the CD, its not going to be protected. Its still too easy to RMB a file and take off the protections.

The Solidworks API even has a call to save files, even if still write protected!

If you have assemblies,you could save them off as a part file. If you need to 'sign' the thing, extrude your initials thru it, etc, before saving as a part file.

thanks guys, they just vied the disc while i was there.

As far as the proprietory issues, i had permission to use these in my portfolio. all titleblocks were removed.

How would one develop a professional portfolio without showing people what you have been working on to prove you are compitent in the software? Thanks!
