Good morning gentleman! This question regards ASME Section IX. I had a welder weld up some plates for a customer. Basically the day that all the testing was completed and the WPS was being written, a different customer asked for a WPS that included a plate thickness was not in my thickness range.

The thicker plate (2") was then welded:
Tig root/hot pass
>0.75 GMAW-P
>0.75 FCAW
P8-P8

My question is if I can add this second (thick) plate PQR to the original WPS. There were no charpy impacts because of the austentitic nature of the material.

The original plates were:

0.2499" / 0.500"
TIG root
FCAW filler
Short Arc Back weld
(This one done to give me single layer deposit)

You are running a different combination of processes with the thicker material, and since process(es) are considered an essential variable, you will need a separate WPS and PQR.
