Hey all,

I was recently shown a video of a 3d printer working in metal that included machining capabilities. It was downright impressive. It got me curious, and I was wondering if anyone knows whether these types of manufacturing techniques are being looked at by ASME for the BPVC. Has anyine seen any notes or articles by ASME?

I think it is certainly a long way off for big vessels, but it makes me wonder about smaller parts or components. It would certainly make geometries such as flued opening much easier to fabricate!

Cheers.

marty007, I will ask around this week. It's BPV Code Committee meeting week in Colorado Springs.

Hey thanks, good timing!

On the subject of BPV code committees, I've been growing interested in somehow taking part in something like this for my industry. I've read what the ASME website says about joining committees, but can you give any first-hand perspectives on the BPC committees (commitment/acceptance/etc...)?

Thanks!

forum1536 might be a good place for this type of topic.

Posting guidelines faq731-376 (probably not aimed specifically at you)

I didn't even know that section existed... which is likely the case for many professionals involved in ASME pressure equipment work.

It sounds like TGS4 might be able to answer the question directly from the source this week.
