Advanced Simulation vs. Stress Wizard

I'm trying to run some simulations in NX7. At this point I've been trying to get by on the Stress Wizard, but it really loves to crash on a fairly free-form part I'm trying to analyze. I do not have an Advanced Simulation license, and it would be great if I didn't have to shell out to get it. Am I correct in understanding that the Stress Wizard is a pretty basic solver? Is the engine in Advanced Simulation more capable of solving a complex part? To get a rough idea of what I'm trying to solve - It's a uniform wall thickness part - 816mm x 316mm x 24mm and needs to carry a load of 640kg distributed between 16 points. Is that too much for the Stress Wizard?

can you share the model, and a sketch of the loads and bc's?

I can't share the model, but I'll work on a quick sketch. There's some symmetry in the part which I'll use to simplify the model to be analyzed. I'll give that a try as well.

Well it looks like there's something more fundamentally wrong in our setup and GTAC's on the case.

Are you talking about the 'Strength Wizard'? If so, how is it that you're using it in NX 7.0 since we've obsoleted this product and have removed it from NX as of NX 7.0.

No it's the 'Stress Wizard' in the Process Studio tab. It's coupled with the Vibration Wizard. It looks to be unchanged since NX4, and probably before, but 4 is the oldest I have installed.

Anyhow I keep hearing that it's a weak solver and I'm trying to do more than it is capable of. The Advanced Simulation costs many times my budget. I tried Roshaz, but had very limited success in getting a solid model into it. It did work when it made a solid, but on complex surfaces it failed. I think I'm going with SolidWorks Professional (formerly CosmosWORKS) as it's about 1/6 the cost of NX Advanced Simulation.
