question is where one can find some guides/tutorials for advanced users, as cast/help that comes with installation cover just basic users. i need to find solutions for making adaptable template design of construction that look like tower crane body, and have to adapt to new conditions in shape, length, number of sections, details etc. i will use combination of advanced assembly functions to achieve this and i need to fill some holes in my knowledge of NX assembly, but i can't find anything on internet including Siemens site. do i need some special permissions from administrators in my company? as i travel a lot i do not have fixed IP, can that be a problem?

second part of problem is connected to surface design, and questions are same, where to find explanations of advanced options.

thank you!

Ivan,

After visiting your blog, it seems to me that you should be teaching an advance users course. Nice work.

@looslib, thank you, first link look promising, i will check it, i have to ask my boss for money first :)
i already know about designviz, and in this moment i am considering to buy their NX7.5 guide book... does anybody have information if that book is worth buying? from their video tutorials i guess they have "some" experience :), but is there enough advanced things in it?

@mmauldin, actually in this moment i work as NX adviser/consultant :) but i always look for more knowledge :)

You are looking for something that is very specialized ~ there probably is no such book that you are looking for.
If this is a sneaky way to advertize your blog then you will probably get the boot from here.

uhhh, you got me... just tell me what would i got from people rush my blog? i do not have banners on it, i do not have time for freelancing, i do not sell anything on it... blog is just something i made to show possibilities of engineering, and possibilities of CAD, there is many free models for download, so i do not get anything from advertising myself... if i ever start making money from my blog, i assume then there is good reason for ban.

And yes i am looking for something specialized, as i have to make almost artificial Intelligence inside CAD assembly so it can adapt to all changes... and i need little help and inspiration how to do it.

the worst is that i can't share files and that is maybe only way to explain what i actually need...

I just get access to Siemens GTAC that i didn't know i have access, but i have to wait for webkey for GTAC, does anybody know how long it take for Siemens admins to give you webkey for GTAC?

Why do you say that you can't share files? If you can't share the actual part models, perhaps a picture of what you're attempting to do or else a simple made-up example with just enough detail to get the point across.

As for GTAC getting you a webkey login, it should be very quick. Did you actually call and talk to someone at GTAC and request a webkey login or did you contact them via some other means?

Pictures can be dangerous especially when you're dealing with new/prototype technology

hmmm... maybe some images can do the job... and you are actually right... i can make some simple assembly that show what i am trying to do, i will do it during weekend and will be back with it.

i contacted them over GTAC form on Siemens site... guess it will take fey days for them to send me webkey...

Well . . . one of your previous threads got deleted when you tried to advertise your blog

@jerry1423
i just made that blog, and was so proud on it... i wanted to show it to engtips community and made mistake by announcing it like that. i thought that engtips is about learning and sharing but i did wrong as it is not about sharing outside resources, but about making examples as they are needed. in this moment i do not see harm that if somebody asked question i make tutorial how to solve his problem, post it to may blog and post here link to that solution if that solution is too long to make simple answer to it. i think that would be acceptable or i am wrong again??
anyway i understand that it was wrong to make whole new tread about my blog... but i do not see what is wrong with link in my signature? if admins tell me that signature is crossing the line i will edit my signature. so please enough off topic in this thread.

@jerry1423
"Why do you think it will take a couple days?"

uh... i misread JohnRBaker "As for GTAC getting you a webkey login, it should be very quick" i read "shouldn't be very quickly"... ccc sorry. so it is not matter of days :) that make me even more happy!

No, I think you will find that having the link in your signature is OK since it's passive and requires the action of another before its content is accessed. It's when people are specifically DIRECTED to an external site, as part of an answer, that is often seen as violating the Eng-Tips rules.

ok i will try to explain it without images... as i have to travel this weekend and i do not have time to make new simplified assemblies. so...

base part - have three splines that give outer shape of construction web... for easier imagination it look like tower crane but with splines instead vertical lines... these lines are different at every new construction...

first liked part - is just a link of these three lines so it is easy to re-link with every new design

controlling assembly - here i have links from "first liked part" and planes i use for controlling placement and distance of sections in this construction, every plane is controlled by expressions. in this part i made points on every intersection of planes and splines

segment/section parts - i use links to points from "controlling assembly" to make wireframe of lines and then i make solid bodies using these lines as vectors for extrusion.

this is simplified example.
now questions:

-suggestions how to make this design to change number of sections depending of length of splines? that should be automated process.

-how to be able to change one or few sections from type A to type B without reworking whole construction?

these are main issues, and i would love to hear your opinion on this. i will give you as much extra details as i can on this.
