Advise for the foundation of pool house

Hi

I am looking to design a pool house in Toronto, Ontario.

It will be about 700 ft2. simple standard pool house with two change rooms. It will be about 3 feet higher than the existing ground level to match the deck of the adjacent inground swimming pool.

What is the best design for the foundation.
1- Just 5-6 inches concrete slab on a compacted 8 inches granular materials

2- Concrete Foundation wall that is 4 feet below the ground level, then the concrete slab
3- Pour 6 concrete piles each 20 inches down to 4 feet below the ground level . pour the concrete slab at the top of them


Any other recommendations please. If you have a sketch or drawing will be great .

Check your local building code. They may have rules for slabs on grade where frost may be a factor. Remember while a code may say frost depth is say 5 feet, if your ground is a clean granular material, the depth of freezing may go much deeper. Also remember clean granular material doesn't heave. For example, in LaCrosse WI in clean sand and gravel I once measured below freezing in the ground 8 feet below grade. That was even before Christmas.

The size your proposing is above the allowable size for sheds most likely. You could ask the city to see if you can get a barn designation. If not you will need to follow the code for frost protection of heated or unheated structures. The city would likely require your foundation below the frost depth.
