We are installing multiple runs of 5kV triplexed aerial cable with messenger on the ceiling of an underground limestone mine. Eye bolt anchors that extend down about 6 inches from the ceiling have been installed every 50 feet to hang the cable assembly. The ceiling is about 100 feet high in places and is very irregular. The contractor is considering the use of roughly 1.5 foot of chain from the eye bolt anchor to the messenger clamp to support the cable from the ceiling along the straight runs. Has anyone seen this done or can see any issues with this method?

Usually the cable messenger is calculated so that for 150 ft span will be 2.5 ft sag. So, for 50 ft span 2.5 ft is better.I suppose.
