When selecting an AFD for a small motor (30 hp), would the AFDs selection depend on the make of motor or as long as the AFD is manufactured in North America (NA)it would be generally compatible with any NA manufactured pump motor?

I am not familiar with the use of AFD vs VFD. But, if it is a normal Variable Frequency Drive we are talking about, I would say that any VFD is compatible with any ASIM. Regardless of origin. The important thing is technical data and not "race, creed or nationality" and if the VFD can be set to handle the motor in question, there should not be any problems.

There might be FCC or other EMC issues, but very few VFDs, that do not comply with regulations, exist today.

AFD, VFD, (tomato, tomahto, let's call the whole thing off), same thing. And Gunnar is correct it does not matter. Any drive can run any motor. There are however very good reasons to select a motor that has been specifically designed to be operated by AFD/VFD/"Inverters", and motor design standards (metric sizes etc) are different for North America vs the rest of the world, so it's a good idea to pay attention to that too. But the drives are "agnostic", they don't care.

I agree with everything said , however some manufacturers who make both motor and VFD publish the recommended drive settings to "optimize" their motor and VFD combination, based on the relative performance and construction characteristics of their equipment. This is particularly important when pursuing maximum efficiency. The drives or motors will probably perform just as well with some other suitable brand of equipment but the published data just makes the set up a bit easier sometimes.
