Hi guys / gals,

I need a big help. I am in a rush to finish some jobs and can’t solve my problem with I-Deas IGS translator (OI Server is not enabled (to enable, unset SDRC_OI_OFF)). I have seen already few treads on this problem (ORBIX is off), but nothing works.
Everything worked fine until few days ago on my machine (Toshiba Laptop, Windows XP Home Edition and I-DEAS 10 NX) and I don't know what happened all of the sudden.

I have tried the following based on UGS' instruction:

SYMPTOM/PROBLEM
---------------
Wen attempting import/export IGES, STEP etc. an error appears in the list
region: "OI server not enabled".

This is due to a problem with Orbix. The solution below is specific to
I-deas10 releases and beyond.

SOLUTION/WORKAROUND
-------------------
Here are 3 techniques to jump start Orbix again.
You have to a memebr of the Administrators group to perform these.

1) Make sure the IT Iona services are installed and running.
a)Start the 'Services' application
Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services
b)Check for the existence of the following services:
IT iona_services.config_rep.machinename cfr-MyDomain
IT iona_services.locator.machinename MyDomain
IT iona_services.naming.machinename MyDomain
IT iona_services.node_daemon.machinename cfr-MyDomain
c) If any of the above services are not 'Started' start them by
highlighting the service, and choosing the right mouse button selection
'Start'
d) Exit I-deas, restart and try the 3D translation operation again.

2) Restart the IT iona services
a)Start the 'Services' application
Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services
b)Locate the following services:
IT iona_services.config_rep.machinename cfr-MyDomain
IT iona_services.locator.machinename MyDomain
IT iona_services.naming.machinename MyDomain
IT iona_services.node_daemon.machinename cfr-MyDomain
c) Shut down all the above services by highlighting the service, and
choosing the right mouse button selection 'Stop'
d) Start all the above services by highlighting the service, and
choosing the right mouse button selection 'Start'
e) Exit I-deas, restart and try the 3D translation operation again.

3) Reinstall the Orbix services
a) Open a DOS command prompt
b) In explorer navigate to the I-deas 'install' directory
i.e.:d:\eds\i-deas10\install
c) Drag the orbiE2Ainstall.exe file over to you DOS prompt
d) Add the /r and /f options to the executable to uninstall the services
i.e.: PROMPT>> d:\eds\i-deas10\install\orbixE2Ainstall.exe /r /f
e) Once that has completed, repeat the orbixE2A execution, this time using
the /i option to install the service
i.e.: PROMPT>> d:\eds\i-deas10\install\orbixE2Ainstall.exe /i
f) Exit I-deas, restart and try the 3D translation operation again.

Temporally I am using those commands, but it is not a solution:

/xto co bo fc im - For Import
/xto co bo fc ex - For Export

but this doesn’t work on assemblies…
Please help,

Leska

Recently I used the following trick:
- Import the file into NX (Unigraphics) .prt-file, and then into I-deas: File->Unigraphics open.
- Using File->Unigraphics open, you can import Parasolid files too (x_t, x_b), with no any of IO-Orbix-like errors.

Hello DimoUrumov (Aerospace),

Thanks for your info. I am actually doing the similar way right now. I am checking in the library and going through File->Interoperate and getting them out, but it is not a solution and it is slow... and not a real solution...

Best regards,

Leska
