I have been asked to design a lay-down yard for storing steel containers. A large forklift will be the heaviest axle load on the area in question (125 kip). The area will be graded to around 2% slope with soil from a containment berm around the site. Then a base course and running course of aggregate will be placed on top of the subgrade. The soil is CL having 119 pcf maximum dry density compacted at 12.5% moisture.
I am having trouble choosing a design method that will accurately take into account the heavy loads. Most ESAL equivalence charts only go to 50 kips. I have looked at Aggregate equivalent and structural number methods. I could use some guidance on how to proceed.
The design life is 10 years
