Is there a way to get at least CGM files out of Illustrator (CS 11) to import into NX4?
DXF works... sort of. Much rather have something that didn't require re-creation (extruding solids)
I heard that Ideas was able to get a reasonable representation of an ai file that looked grand.

Thanks...

What do you mean "...without recreation (extruding solids)"? Illustrator is not a 3D modeler, therefore there is no 3D math, so what more do you expect from translation formats that for the most part are 2D only?

I have read about using .dxf for 3D math, but have never personally seen it done. But I'm 99% sure it's not going to matter what you do, you're going to end up with 2D vector data upon import.

We used to export CGM polylines of text from UG, import them and creat .001'thk solids to represent that artwork.
ai doesn't have that exort listed, and DXF leaves lines out.

I am told that SDRC Ideas had the capability of importing (??) to visually display (non-surface) a representation of the artwork on the solid model.

I had a ID guy get iges data out of ai, but who knows what he had to go through... His secret.
Thanks anyway...
