Hi There,

We are currently using an air back pressure control valve for our air line. However, I would like to know if I can use the same valve model for water. I have to temporarily hook up a pressure regulating valve for water to reduce the line pressure from 800kpa to 650kpa and since we have a few spares of this model I would like to use it for the water application. The max pressure for this valve is 1200kpa.
The valve has 316ss seat material and stem material with polychloroprene diaghpragm, with a Cv of 9.
I have searched the internet for the valve from the supplier but there is no detail on the web and when I tried calling them the time difference is 10hrs.

Thanks for your assistance

while seat and plug if hardened could be Ok take care that required feedback and control system (actuator) are not the same, just to mention that water can be regarded as incompressible fluid while air is compressible, reaction time, control action etc. may not work as expected (that will depend from the characteristics of your circuit), a manufacturer which I know provides different actuators for gas and liquid services (while the body could be the same but with specific treatments to seat and plug).

I tried to do something similar last year using a Kimray valve. I contacted the manufacturer and their engineer said that a valve built for pneumatic control would not work with hydraulic control, They did have a $60 USD kit to convert the valve and with the conversion kit it worked well.

You might check with the manufacturer of your valve.
