We have a group of racing power boats with various owners in various countries in the EU that need modifications to the structural part of the composite safety cell where the driver sits. In order to ensure that the modifications are carried out competently, the thought is to send them to aircraft composite repair shops that already have some sort of certification for this type of work. The resulting structure must be as good as or better than the original. The original builders are not confident that they can achieve this level of quality. The cells are generally a sandwich structure with carbon and Kevlar skins over a foam core.
Is there a certification process that these shops go through so that they can say " Our shop meets xxxxx standard"? I know that Lufthansa probably won't be interested, but there must be shops that do repair work on sailplanes etc.
