But the technology to do this has been around for over a decade for starch. It could have been done in SLA as well, over a couple decades ago. The only thing really new is that they just decided to do it.

ESP, the materials have improved, the process has improved, the costs may have decreased, the software for modelling it has improved, the electronics for the payload have improved & shrunk...

Sure, you could have probably done some fragile, expensive remote controlled plane a decade or more ago but it may only be in the last few years where you could create a cost effective functionally usefull drone.

I wonder if they've been using any of these technologies already on some 'proof on concept' aircraft etc.
