I have been taught never to use polysulfide based sealants where in direct contact with acrylics (windshields or windows). The exception to this rule is the use of acrylic compatible polysulfides (ex. PR1425). The reason given was solvents used in these sealants would cause these transparencies to develop crazing, which coalesce into cracks, then failure. This process was supposed to take a long time. Can anyone give some insight on how this occurs? Has there been testing done to develop crazing growth rates? What are some guidelines I can use if we have a situation where non-compatible sealant is used on an acrylic window? Is the window toast? Any help would be appreciated.
