I will be taking the vertical portion of the SE exam soon, and I was just wondering if it was necessary for me to have the AISC Seismic Design manual for that portion of the exam. NCEES lists all the codes that their exam follows, but they just give one big list for both the vertical and lateral portions all together. For anyone who has already taken the vertical exam, do you think it's relevant to have the AISC Seismic Design Manual for it? If not, I may just wait until I take the lateral portion to get that book.

No, I wouldn't bring it. Some of the examples are nice regardless of whether it's seismic design or not but it's not going to be much use for vertical only.
