Has anyone ever been to the AISC steel camp? If so, could you share your opinion on whether is it worth traveling to and spending a couple days at.

If it gets you away from a screaming wife and a bunch of kids --- you figure it out!!

I've been and I enjoyed it. Although, I think it may largely depend on your exposure to that type of work.

From what I remember (when I took it in California)-- Day 1 was focused on walking through AISC Design Guide 5 with seismic considerations.

Day 2 was focused on steel moment frame design / detailing, new engineering products (i.e. BRBFs and self straightening structures (brace with footings that can uplift and a pre-tensioned cable to self right the structure after an earthquake) and things like that.

I found it educational and really enjoyed it. However, we don't do a lot of this type of work. If you do it everyday it may be basic.
