Would anyone happen to know if the City of L.A. Steel Fabricator requirements are as stringent as AISC standards? Reason I ask is that I bid a project in which the spec calls for an AISC certified fabricator. I have an L.A. City Approved Fabricator I would rather use and would like to tell the owner they are more stringent than AISC which will ensure a better quality product, but I am not smart enough on this to know if that is true or not. Any help would be much appreciated.

Couldn't you contact the LA Steel Fab union or governing body and ask what the difference is? Surely they should know considering AISC is a National governing body and LA Steel Fab is not.

Just my opinion.

That's probably a good idea. I'll give it a try. Thanks!

If the job is in LA City, or one of the local municipalities utilizing the LA City code, the use of an LA City approved fabricator is not an option no matter how specified, at least it wasn't a little while ago.
