Aligning text to graphics in annotations 1

Per our company's standards general notes on the drawing have text along with some graphics mike boxes and hexes. And aligning text to graphics is really hard, because when I zoom out something moves, and even though it looks fine on screen, when I print the drawing, text overlaps graphics and hexes all misaligned.
Any suggestions?

It is, but if it's that crucial for the notes to be aligned to the notes. Then I would suggest you use MS word or some other type of insert\Object. I personally don't use MS word or any other type of OLE object in my drawings. Just SW.

I've tried to insert MS Word object to the drawing, but it appears in a box. Is there a way to get rid of the box?

Insert\Object\ - Select "Create New" - Select "Object type" MS Word Document" - Make sure "Display as Icon" is not checked - Click OK

Question: When I embed a bitmap (or other OLE object), it only shows as an icon. Why might this be happening?

Answer: The first thing to check is to make sure the object is set to display its content under Edit, Object. If it is set to Display Content, then most likely there is no OLE compliant application on the machine which is capable of displaying the type of object which you have embedded. The ability to display OLE objects is based on Microsoft Windows OLE functionality. To properly display objects in any application, there must be an OLE compliant application installed on the machine which is associated to the file type which you have embedded. For example, if you embed a bitmap and it only shows as an icon, go to Windows Explorer and double click on the *.bmp file. If no application starts and displays the file, then either no application is associated with the *.bmp extension or there is no application on the machine at all capable of displaying such a file type.

Try this within SWX: Insert the annotation in the part or drawing file and then use the Border option. Here you can select circular, triangle, hex, box, etc. and you can select how close the border fits your text. You can also select Left, Center or Right justify in the Text Format option. This might give you all you need native to SWX. You can always insert more fancy stuff using the methods mentioned above.

That's what I have a problem with. Border cannot be placed around one character in the text, it goes around entire annotation. And when one character (or couple of)with hex border has to be added to annotation, there is no way to align those two annotations.
Too bad.

Dear bigBboris,
I know exactly what you are going though and had the same problem. Here's a couple of things I would suggest:

1. Ban using MS Word (sorry Scott) and create your text notes and draw tools in Ms Excel. Excel is a better tool to move around text boxes and images.

2. I know for a fact in SW2004 you can put a single text box around a piece of text. Example: If you have to put in a drawing note, let's say note...
1.(flagged with a triangle) MARK PART PER MIL-STD-130 IN
LOCATION SHOWN.
You can highlight ( I beleive) the text 1. and go to the add symbol icon and add the symbol flag option "1 tri 99" I think... (sorry, I'm at home and don't have my laptop handy)and add it that way.

You are right, I can add symbol to text, but symbol library does not have hexes and other symbols we are using. Is there any way to add symbol to library?

We have a way to cure this using a custom editor program (VB stuff) which ends up with the notes being plain SW - not Word. I will go ask how it is done but please have patience. Unfortunately I might get my head bitten off as our API guru is under a little stress right now due to some issues expanding our PDM to meet our needs and it if not his fault.

OK - here is how we do it. I only got the concept information, but any of you smart guys can probably figure out the details. (Also TheTick has a direct contact to our SW programming guru, so if he gets involved in this thread, he can probably get more detail questions answered - we are stretched kinda thin right now.)

Essentially what we do is use the SW "Compound Note" - the API has been around for a few revs. It allows graphics as well as text and our entire set of general notes is in one entity.
