I just purchased ASME B31.4 as I am working on a small fuel handling system at a diesel-fired power plant. New aboveground storage tanks will be installed along with new piping.

The plant maintenance department wants to use malleable iron fittings. Section 423.24(a) seems to be clear that malleable iron fittings cannot be used in the piping system. But, if I go to Table 423.1 there is an entry under Fittings, etc about gray iron castings. Am I making the correct interpretation - No malleable iron fittings?

Agree with BIGINCH, the applicable standard should be ASME B31.1,Power Piping Standard. I have 2001 and fittings are covered in section 106, but section 106 refers you to additonal sections, 122.7, Piping for Flammable or Combustible Liquids and 122.8, Piping for Flammible Gases etc.
Hope this helps.
