Guys are any of you familiar with the ANSI/HI 9.6.2-2001 standard? This is the standard setting forth allowable nozzle loads for ANSI centrifugals. Do any of the current manufacturer's offerings comply? I bet they don't. This is the first I've heard of it. Thanks - Pete

Thanks!
Pete

I never heard of it either.
What are some of the nozzle loads given or how do they specify the loads?

Some of the loads are as follows:

For a 6x8-13, at the suction flange, allowable axial force = 3500 lb, allowable vertical tangential force = 3180 lb, allowable horizontal tangential force = 2000 lb

Thanks!

Actually it's two standards, not one - I think what you're getting at is that ASME B73.1 2001, paragraph 5.1.2, states allowable flange loading shall be in accordance with Hydraulic Institute 9.6.2. I have to admit I personally don't worry about it much with ANSI pumps, if I'm buying a pump I have the vendor provide their allowable nozzle loads on their GA's and give those numbers to my designers.

In my case it is a very worrisome topic because most of my applications involve fairly high temperature service, i.e. 150°-350°, and large Ø lines. ANSI pumps are not as stout as API pumps, and most of the owners in this area use ANSI exclusively, so I am constantly having to fight this.

Thanks!
Pete

I think the simple solution here is that the ANSI std pumps are not really designed for pipe loads.
