Hi every one
I have a question, is there a difference between allowable tensile stress and allowable stress, if yes what's the difference

Allowable stress is like saying "crayon" and allowable tensile stress is like saying "green crayon"

For ductile materials, there really shouldn't be a difference between the two. But for non-ductile materials, the allowable tensile stress would be lower than the allowable compressive stress, so the differentiation is necessary.

Where the failure mode is buckling, the allowable stress may be only a fraction of the allowable tensile stress.
In some cases, bending stress may be allowed to exceed allowable tensile stress.
