Hi all

In designing a vessel or a boiler, which stress is used? Yield Stress or Ultimate Tensile Strength?

Someone told me ASME code uses both which makes me even more confuse.

Thanks for your help.

See the formulae in the Code books. They will tell you what to use. The stress values are given in ASME Section IID.

From your recent posts here on ET it appears you have very limited understanding of ASME B&PV Code. My tip to you is to inquire about attending ASME classes to become exposed to what ASME B&PV Code is all about. For you to review Section IX, Section II, Part D, Section VIII or even Section I on your own will be difficult to do.
