Alodine coating 1

Have any of you heard the material Alodine? I believe it is a type of coating that can be used in place of gold metalization, but I'm not sure.

Hello There,

Alodine is a form of chromate conversion coating typically deposited onto aluminum panels for corrosion protection. It is somewhat conductive and is used heavily on airframe structural members. A contrasting finsh on aluminum is anodizing which is a different manufacturing process and to my knowledege is not conductive. As you are probably aware, gold is a precious metal deposit and heavily used in electrical connectors. Gold and alodine are not typically used in the same applications. [sig]<p>William H. The company I work for dumps Alodine down the drain. Is there something wrong with that. Does it get into the water supply? How toxic or dangerous is this chemical?

Concerned Citizen,

Alodine is very very toxic. Anything going down a drain eventualy gets into the water supply.

They must STOP and dispose of it safely. I'm sure the EPA would have a few words to say to your employer!

I hate to hand it to you...The FEDS/EPA/.. will be like flies on cow manure if they know this is done deliberately..Please do educate your coworkers/ employee...The should be a paper trace telling them how to dispose this material. Due to tight OSHA regulations and the cost of disposing of the bath used our company farm out all metal finishes to specialized companys...let me know if you need a contact for your Employer.
