Alternate Brace wall

By using alternate brace wall design, (2'8" min length)
Do i still need holdowns? Wall is 8 foot high.

"Strong-Brace Wall" made by Simpson comes pre-attached with PDH holdowns.

For other products that do not come with holdowns, whether a holdown is needed or not should be determined by calculations. Due to the small resisting arm, more often than not, holdowns are required by design.

Yes, holdowns are req'd for 1800lbs. of uplift if designing per UBC 2320.11.4. There are many restrictions for designing with this section of the code and many jurisdictions simply do not accept designs per this section of the code if in Southern California.
