MSS-SP83 for pipe unions specify the use of ASTM A105 for carbon steel material. We are finding A105 very hard to source. MSS-SP83 states that "Unions may be made from materials of other wrought material by agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser but shall not be marked SP-83". What are acceptable alternatives that are readily available?

Sorry - a threaded pipe union.

rbrez,

You're obviously looking talking to the wrong suppliers. ASTM A105 forged carbon steel is the material for 3000# carbon steel unions per MSS SP-83-2001.

You might try contacting the following manufacturers, Bonney Forge or Kemper Valve and Fittings, they both have websites.

Good luck,
