Hi Everyone,
I'm running a qualification test, and the agency requires us to test material that is within 7 ksi of the material specification. For 6061 T651, the specification states a minimum yield of 35 ksi and an ultimate of 38 ksi. If we receive material back from a supplier and the mill cert shows that the material is actually 7ksi strong than the minimum spec, then we have to take a reduction on our load. My question is, is it possibly to buy 6061 in the annealed condition and send it to a heat treater to apply a T651 temper to the material to get the yield and tensile to within 7 ksi of the spec.
If not T651, what about T6?
Thanks,
Mike
