We have an aluminum hatch and frame to be embedded in concrete in a relatively dry environment, but it can be subject to occasional wetting. The high pH of concrete causes corrosion of the aluminum. The frame has come pre-coated to prevent contact and there are some 'scuffed' areas where the coating has been removed. We will endeavour to get info from the supplier about the coating system.

Is there a coating system that can be used to protect aluminum in concrete?

Many coatings are available. Epoxies offer great adhesion and resistance to high pH corrosion products. If this will be outdoors and exposed to ultraviolet radiation, then epoxies can be degraded and you may need another coating type. For exterior use, the AAMA recommends high-performance coatings (fluorocarbons, siliconized acrylics, siliconized polyesters) that are capable of weathering outdoor exposure for at least 20 years.

Specifically AAMA 2605 for durable coatings on aluminum in outdoor exposure. They have lesser test regimens (2603, 2604) defined as well.

Thanks very much, gentlemen...

If the coating is damaged and water is available, corrosion will occur.
