We're designing a cast part that will be manufactured in China. We've spec'd a min. yield strength and they're telling us that they'll be using a material called ZG25.

I've searched matweb and everywhere on the net and can't seem to find material properties (yield strength, modulous of elast., etc.) All I can find is the chemical composition of it.

They're asking us questions like, "Do we want it annealed?", and we're not sure how to answer since we can't even figure out what material their using.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You may try to compare the chemical composition first.

ZG 25 conforms to plain carbon steel casting perhaps ASTM A27 .

C 0.22/0.30, Mn 0.50/0.80 , Si 0.25/0.45 , P 0.040 max, S 0.040 max, Cr <0.35, Ni < 0.30, Mo <0.20, Cu < 0.30.

This casting needs at the least a normalizing heat treatment if not annealing.

Ok, thanks.

ASTM A27 at least gives me a starting point.

Ok, so why can't I find any material data online when I search A27 steel? Matweb doesn't have anything listed.
