Following recent increase of ammonia matter in the scrubbing wastewater used to clean the flue gas, we have been using a FT-IR analyser (Gasmet DX4000) to analyse the top gas leaving a blast furnace (primary steelmaking). The sample is drawn from the furnace top gas before any effort is made to clean the gas (temp 160 celsius approx.).
The results so far indicate very low ammonia levels in the top gas and we are beginning to wonder whether the ammonia signature we have in the gas cleaning water may be derived from some other ammonia derivative and since we're only looking for ammonia gas (NH3) we may be missing something.
I'd be very grateful if you could tell us whether other compounds outside our target list may exist in the gas stream or give a view of the likely ammonia derived compounds we should look for.
