If I'm posting in the wrong forum, please let me know the correct forum to post in.
I'm confused with signals in general. What can tell me if a signal is to be analog in or analog out/digital in or digital out? If anybody knows of an "Instrumentation for dummies", let me know.

Thank you

Digital is on or off only

Analogue has infinite variation

Input is something coming in

Output is going out

The Measurement & Control Instrumentation Engineering forum also addresses instrumentation.

There are probably 20 - 30 overviews or text books on instrumentation in print.

ISA is instrumentation's trade organization at, they publish and sell books on instrumentation.

George Platt's Process Control: A Primer for the Nonspecialist and the Newcomer is what the title suggests. The 1998 edition is current. Half.com has one for $0.75 plus shipping.
