This is a continuation of my thread on this subject. So what is the best method of analyzing an OWSJ? Truss analysis or beam flexure/average shear stress? If using the latter method what happens to the horizontal shear stress thru the centroid of an OWSJ?

Truss analysis is the most accurate and recommended for final analysis. Beam analysis can be used for approximate or simplified analysis. Shear stresses are carried by the web members for parallel chord joists.

Jike, interestingly enough is that the beam analysis gave me slightly more liberal results than the truss analysis confirming your reply.

Agree on beam analysis vs. truss analysis above. The SJI requirements, minimum 25% of reaction, or patterned load requirements/minimum point load requirements of canadian code will soon get rid of web members with zero load at the center of symetric owsj with udl's across them.
