Hi everyone,

For comparison, I need the analytic solution of a multi-layer ELASTIC system subjected to a strip load(under plane-strain).

I got the Burmister's solution, but that's for circular load(under axisymmetry) only. Please tell me where I can find the solution.

Thank you for your time.

Are you talking soil here or structure?

If you are talking a multilayer structure then look up roarks stress and strain.

As for the soil question I do not know, but I think there is a geotec thread on this site.

Lee1974,

By your reference to Burmister's solution for circular footings, I assume that we're talking about soil stresses.

In the absence of any other information, I would assume that the stress field induced by a uniform strip load is the same for any number of layers. The displacements, however, will be dependent on the poisson's ratio and relative thicknesses of the layers.

You may wish to use Burmister's solution as an effective lower bound on the displacements, assuming the strip load width equal to the diameter of the Burmister circular footing.

The PDF file at the following link contains an internal link to a site that offers layered elastic analysis software and references to technical publications that may or may not be helpful.
